On Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 17:11 the Liverpool Fire Department was activated for a Tractor Trailer Rollover on the New York State Thruway (I-90) Eastbound just before Exit 37. Initial reports were conflicting weather the driver was out of the vehicle or not. Car 4 (Deputy Chief Manley) arrived to confirm a tanker truck rolled over with a strong ammonia odor and the driver trapped. There was no placarding on the truck.

Crews went to work to extricate the driver. Due to his injuries, the driver was unable to provide any information about the product in the tank. He was extricated in 41 minutes and transported to the hospital by AMR ambulance.

Moyers Corners Fire Department was requested for assistance in containing the leak of the product as well as diesel fuel leaks. Syracuse Fire HazMat Team along with Syracuse Fire Car 2 responded as well. Utilizing the equipment and technology from Syracuse Fire HazMat unit, it was eventually determined that the product was Ammonium Thyiosulfide, a non-hazardous solution.
